| Is there a way to update my stephthegeek_wp RSS feed here on LJ? I've got the new site going on Drupal and I need to update that account to pick up my new feed address. Can only paid accounts do that?
Whoops, now with commenting on :)
EDIT: mhaithaca found the info and emailed LJ support to have it changed. Thanks!
It apparently takes a few days, so in the meantime, you can check out my journal directly if you'd like. Still working out the kinks on the new site... | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| Someone sent me a LiveJournal nudge, so I thought I'd post a reminder here: - I'm no longer blogging using LiveJournal, but you can add "stephthegeek_wp" to your friends list to get my blog updates syndicated from my site. Please leave stephthegeek on your friends list so I can read your friends-only entries :) | comments: Leave a comment |
| I will no longer be cross-posting entries from my blog to LiveJournal. Please add stephthegeek_wp to your friends' list if you haven't yet, add the feed to your favourite RSS reader, or read my blog directly on my site.
Please leave me on your friends' lists as I still very frequently read all your journals! Thanks :)

| Back to reality. First day of my last year of school. Scary. At least I can wear whatever the heck I want for the first time in eight months.
Today I meet the group I'll be spending the next eight months with. We will be working on our major final year project together for the next two semesters. Hunh. I haven't had two semesters back-to-back in two years.
More time for dance classes, choir, my weekends back... it's going to be a great year. I am so grateful for so many things right now.View/post comments on my blog | comments: Leave a comment |
| I've missed being on campus these past eight months! There's all sorts of frosh stuff going on right now (hey Jay, nice RCS t-shirts!) and a generally awesome buzz in the air. I love the fall.
Saw an extremely well-endowed girl wearing a tight t-shirt that said "You can't get this in The States". Hahaha. And there's some "ultimate dorm room challenge" going on in Yonge Dundas Square, with a few students trying to outlast each other living together in a clear box.
You'd think that after five years I'd remember in which order I needed to do all the administrative beginning-of-school-year crap. But no. I go to get my GO Transit discount form, and she reminds me that I need to get my student ID renewal sticker. Ohhh right. Back down three flights of stairs, where I am told that I need to bring a copy of my fee statement or timetable. Duh. Finally got it all though. I feel like a bit of a stranger on campus. The only people I know would be a few from the group of 40 or so students in my year in co-op. *sighs sadly*View/post comments on my blog | comments: Leave a comment |
| I think this is close to a new record between posts!
Well, that was the last weekend I'll be working, hurrah! I get to actually see Steve in the evenings and on weekends, and perhaps even cook some meals again. That poor man has had so many sandwiches and Hamburger Helper this summer...
Getting excited about school, and I feel like I'm getting my life back.
Dance was cancelled on Sunday, which was a big disappointment because I was dying to try out the improv class. Next time.
So much happening in the next month... and it's my birthday in 12 days!View/post comments on my blog | comments: Leave a comment |
| Well, I'm feeling much better. Rejuvenated, even. Just in time for another work week... but the last one!
I've never worked so hard for someone else and I'm enjoying it, strangely enough. However, I'm glad I'm getting out when I am. My enthusiasm for working for others never lasts very long.View/post comments on my blog | comments: Leave a comment |
| Hurray, it's here! Finally a real break. I am doing nothing useful for the next few hours, ya hear?
Last night was almost comically crappy. A coworker was sick so it was literally call after call. I would hang up the phone, and it would ring immediately, or I'd get out of a session at 8:59pm and have one booked for 9pm. I was so dead. I finally get out of there and get on the train. Ahhh I'm the only one on the car. Some peace and quiet. For about four minutes. We pull into exhibition station, and of course the people start pouring on from The Ex.
Now I'm not sure if there was an actual sign on my car that said "loud, drunken biker guys, please use this car", but it sure as hell felt like it. *grumblegrumblemovebagsandlegs*
I get off the train at my stop and remember that I didn't get a parking spot, so my car is parked way across the street. I get to my car and can't find my freaking keys. I'm getting so frustrated at this point that I'm ready to throw my purse on the ground and sleep there for the night. I'm taking everything out of my purse and in the process, knocking off my work "pin" (I say "pin" because it's actually a really strong magnet) onto the ground in the dark, which I suddenly realize isn't actually my pin, but the one belonging to another girl at work that I grabbed off her desk (and vowed to put back) when I forgot to wear mine.
I finally find the magnet pieces on the ground and as I'm staring at the contents of my purse on the trunk of the car, I see a spider that seems to be pondering making its new home on my ipod. The earwig-centipede-spider trifecta is now complete, so all you bugs can leave me alone. While I'm fumbling around at 12:15am on a deserted, creepy street, I start hearing some guy whistling at me. Great. Where the fuck are my keys! I eventually realize that the reason I can't find my keys in my purse is because I'm wearing my backpack, which I haven't done in ages, which is where my keys are.
Ok so the rest of the evening was pretty uneventful, other than a momentary panic when I went flying past a cop at about 70km/h in a 50.
Oh and Steve got an official "no" for the PayPal job :(
But now it's the weekend and I'm gonna keep playing with Google Desktop for another half an hour or so, avoid laundry, and read fun web sites. View/post comments on my blog | comments: Leave a comment |

| The bug universe seems to have it out for me lately. The other day it was a very large centipede that materialized overhead in the computer room. I was on the verge of waking up Steve, but finally I realized I could spray it with Raid from a safe distance. I've never seen anything die in such a repulsive way.
Then there was an earwig in the shower with me yesterday. Thank god for that handheld shower.
And last night, I was attacked by a very large moth that came flying out of the air vent while I was driving, and hit me in the face.
Yeesh. Go away! *covers herself in a protective film*View/post comments on my blog | comments: Leave a comment |

| | Argh, just as I thought -- I've gained another few pounds since the last time I weighed myself. I have to get back to dance classes. My pants aren't fitting very well :( View/post comments on my blog | comments: Leave a comment |
| More craziness at work. Extra hours, extra shifts, like a billion calls. Two more weeks...
I have to say that it's pretty exciting, although stressful. This project is my baby and we're getting very promising early results from the ISP.

I'm registered in my fall courses. Unfortunately the Ethics & Privacy in IT course I really wanted to take was cancelled (not in high demand these days?). I threw in an e-learning technologies class, but I think I might end up doing only two courses this fall. Gotta check on some things. Looks like I'll have Wednesdays and Thursdays off still. | If you're still reading my journal here and haven't added stephthegeek_wp to your friends' list, please do so that you don't miss some of my
entries. I will soon stop cross-posting to this LiveJournal account so people aren't getting doubles (but will still be reading my friends posts through it, so please don't unfriend me!). | comments: Leave a comment |
| My crush on waterproof technology started at age 12 with a 486 laptop, an unused desk hutch shelf, and some styrofoam blocks. I could finally compute in the comfort of one of my favourite places -- the bathtub!
Since then it's always been a goal to have a bath-appropriate computer setup. Sometimes I drag the laptop to the bath now, but that means sitting upright and crosslegged at the side of the tub, with the laptop on a chair beside the tub. Not exactly promoting comfort and relaxation.
But now, with the recent release of a waterproof mouse by iKey, and countless waterproof keyboards already on the market, this may be more feasible.
Most of the waterproof keyboards seem to be flexible, which is a bit of a problem when you want to use it resting on bare legs. What it needs is to be attached to a plastic board that extends to the right, to act as a mousepad. All of this should be narrow enough to fit in the bathtub. Now the only thing missing in the equation is the display. I can "cheat" a little more for this one. Since the laptop needs to be nearby for the peripherals to plug in, why not just leave it open with the screen visible? As long as I don't get too boisterous in the tub, it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe a towel across the keyboard, just in case. View/post comments on my blog | comments: Leave a comment |
